The Inner Landscapes of Grief:
A Lyrical Exploration of a Garden Within the Boreal Forest
As humans, we sometimes see our world and the landscapes that surround us as only external. Something separate from ourselves, at arm’s length. We easily dismiss the similarities to our inner landscapes, especially when we experience grief and loss.
The Inner Landscapes of Grief explores living and grieving through the lens of the Alaska Botanical Garden, a magical 110 acres of boreal forest and curated gardens that contains species of flowers, trees, herbs, and plants that don’t exist any place else on Earth in this exact way. Through a delicate interplay between photographs and the words that accompany them, the pages enliven the senses, wake us up, offer a shift in perspective, and relax into who we are. And it is here that we can begin to see that our outer landscapes remind us that we can connect with our inner landscapes. There is nothing more to do. Just slow down enough to notice, to see, to be, and to become.
“If we are willing to be limitless in this possibility, we may just begin to understand that our inner landscapes are connected, not just to each other, but to everything. Even our grief is connected to our living, a part of not separate from.”
